Acne scar treatment

Up to 30% of individuals with moderate to severe acne will develop scars. Minor scars may gradually fade or become less visible over time, especially if they are superficial. However, not all scars will disappear on their own. Deep scars such as hypertrophic scars or keloids often remain visible unless they are treated.

The healing time for scars can vary depending on various factors, including the type of scar, the size of the scar, the location on the body, and individual factors such as age and health. In some cases, it may take several years for a scar to become less visible, while in other cases, scars may be permanent and require treatment to reduce their visibility.

How to treat acne scars?

There are several types of scars that can be removed or reduced using different treatment methods. The most common types of scars that can be removed or reduced include:

Superficial, red scars may gradually disappear over time, especially if they are small and not deep. These types of scars are usually the result of minor skin injuries, such as acne or minor wounds, and are typically not as visible as deep scars.

To help these scars fade faster, it is advisable to avoid picking or squeezing pimples or injured areas. Keep the area clean and moisturized with a mild moisturizer and avoid exposure to direct sunlight without sun protection. You may also consider treatments such as chemical peels, laser therapy, or micro needling to help reduce the visibility of these scars.

Atrophic scars are deep scars caused by the loss of collagen and tissue during the healing process. They can be removed or reduced using treatments such as laser therapy, microneedling, or chemical peels.

Hypertrophic scars are raised scars due to excessive collagen production during the healing process. They can be treated with laser therapy or steroid injections.

Keloids are rare and more severe scars that can grow beyond the original site of injury and require special treatment methods such as surgery, laser therapy, or steroid injections.

It is important to remember that not all scars can be completely removed, and treatment results will vary depending on the type of scar, the size of the scar, the severity, and individual factors such as skin type and medical history. It is best to consult with an experienced and qualified medical professional to determine which treatment method is best for you.

Laser treatment of acne scars

The Fotona Dynamis SP Pro is a medical laser system that can be used for various skin treatments, including acne scar removal. Laser treatment for acne scars with the Fotona Dynamis SP Pro involves using a fractional laser to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibres that help to repair and rejuvenate the skin. The laser energy also targets the scar tissue, causing it to break down and gradually fade away.

The Fotona Dynamis SP Pro offers several modes of laser delivery, including Nd:YAG and Er:YAG modes, which allow for greater flexibility in treating different types of acne scars. The Nd:YAG mode is used to target deeper scars, while the Er:YAG mode is used to resurface the skin and treat shallower scars.

The laser treatment itself typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and severity of the scars. Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the treatment, and there is little to no downtime associated with the procedure.

It is important to note that while laser treatment can be effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars, it may not completely eliminate them. Multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal results. It is also important to consult with a licensed and experienced medical professional who can assess your individual needs and determine the best course of treatment for you.

Treatment plan

Our advanced lasers are used to address various skin problems. The number of treatments required varies depending on the specific skin problem. Some skin conditions may only require one treatment, but many will require a minimum of 3 treatments to achieve the desired results. Together with a dermatologist, you will determine the best course of action for your skin condition. For multiple treatments, there will be a need for a 3-8 week interval, depending on your specific problem. This is because the skin needs time to heal before repeating the treatment. Note: Laser treatment is not recommended for pregnant individuals.

Before treatment

To get the best results from the laser treatment, it is best not to have tanned skin. You should therefore avoid the sun and any self-tanning cream on the area to be treated in the last 4-6 weeks before the treatment. Come without make-up when going for laser treatment.

During treatment

Before treatment, we will prepare your skin for laser treatment. Both you and the therapist will want to wear glasses that protect your eyes from the bright light. The laser treatment itself can be experienced as somewhat unpleasant, but it is completely safe and nothing to worry about.

After treatment

You will be able to experience that the skin is warm and red after laser treatment. This depends on the treatment, and your dermatologist will inform you of this in advance.

After the treatment, depending on the reaction to your skin, we will apply any cooling elements. We recommend daily use of sun factor 50 to protect the skin after the treatment and for the best possible result. You should avoid direct sun exposure in the treated area for the following four weeks.
