Surgical removal of moles is the most common way to remove moles. It is a treatment method that is often used for smaller melanomas or early-stage mole cancer, where the melanoma is removed during a biopsy. This is an effective method of removing moles with a deep base and involves removing a piece of tissue from the body. For people with early-stage mole cancer, this will be the only treatment needed. Surgical removal of moles is performed with a scalpel, and a stitch or two will be sewn after the operation. One will always take care to achieve the best possible cosmetic result.

Following the operation, the mole will be sent for histological examination, to analyze whether cancer has developed. As a rule, you will receive an answer as to whether the mole contains cancer within 1-2 weeks. You will normally be able to do normal activities shortly after the treatment, but a surgical intervention will require some care from you afterwards. Among other things, you must remember to apply compresses and plasters on the wound regularly, as well as keep the wound protected in the period after the procedure. In addition, you normally have to have stitches to be removed after the wound has begun to heal. You will be able to get help with this from one of our skin nurses.
