What is minor surgery?

Minor surgery by an experienced doctor

At Dr. Dropin, the doctors you meet are experienced in removing various types of changes on the body, sewing up cuts and treating wound infections.

Minor surgery

If you have a skin change on your body that you want removed, Dr. Dropin has available doctors with extensive experience with this type of intervention.

How is the procedure carried out?

  • The doctor uses local anesthetic in the area around what is to be removed
  • With the help of a scalpel or a scraper, the skin change is removed.
  • The piece of skin that is removed is often sent in for examination

You don't initially need any preparations, but it may be a good idea to think about what you are going to do in the next 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

When you make a wound on the skin, a possible infection can occur after the procedure, but with proper wound care the chances are small. Most people get a visible scar.

Cuts and sores

If you have had a cut where the wound edges do not meet or have a wound that does not heal/is dirty, our experienced doctors can help you.

  • Small cuts and wounds are cleaned and can be stripped so that they heal nicely.
  • Larger cuts should be stitched within 6 hours.
  • Exceptions are bite injuries and very dirty wounds which the doctor should consider should be cleaned first, before they are, after assessment, stitched after 2-3 days.

Stitch removal

The doctor who treated you will give you information about how many days your stitches or staples are expected to be in place before they are removed.

General rule for when stitches are removed is:

  • Face: 5-7 days
  • Upper body: 8-10 days
  • Arms and legs: 8-10 days
  • Back: 14 days

If the doctor considers that your problem is too complex to be solved outside hospital, the doctor will make a thorough assessment and refer you to the correct department in the hospital to perform the operation.

When should I see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon?

At Dr. Dropin, you can also choose to meet both dermatologists and plastic surgeons. They can diagnose and treat all skin conditions, including removal and surgery. If you want a closer assessment of the skin change before removal, you can go to a dermatologist. If a cosmetically attractive result is particularly important to you, our plastic surgeons can help you.
