Eclectic or integrative approach is a form of therapy where the psychologist uses methods from several different theoretical perspectives in the same treatment. This may include e.g. cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, emotion-focused therapy, psychoanalytic therapy and/or other approaches. In this way, the psychologist can adapt the treatment to the individual client's problem, treatment goals and motivation by using the theories and methods that are most appropriate.
An eclectic or integrative approach allows for flexibility in treatment, which can be useful when working with varied and complex issues. The approach is suitable for a number of problems, including anxiety, depression, stress-related disorders, relational difficulties or self-esteem issues.
