Eclectic/integrative therapy

Eclectic or integrative approach is a form of therapy where the psychologist uses methods from several different theoretical perspectives in the same treatment.

In this article you can read more about how it is done, as well as hear from psychologist from Dr.Dropin Psykology who offers this type of therapy.

How does Eclectic or integrative therapy work?

Eclectic or integrative approach is a form of therapy where the psychologist uses methods from several different theoretical perspectives in the same treatment. This may include e.g. cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, emotion-focused therapy, psychoanalytic therapy and/or other approaches. In this way, the psychologist can adapt the treatment to the individual client's problem, treatment goals and motivation by using the theories and methods that are most appropriate.

An eclectic or integrative approach allows for flexibility in treatment, which can be useful when working with varied and complex issues. The approach is suitable for a number of problems, including anxiety, depression, stress-related disorders, relational difficulties or self-esteem issues.

From the psychologists office 💭

"There are several ways to understand and work with psychological difficulties. A psychologist who works eclectically or integratively uses elements from several different therapeutic methods. This leaves room for flexibility and "tailoring" in the treatment."

"During my time as a psychologist, I have worked with different approaches to the treatment of mental health problems. My experience is that even if a method works well for one client, it may not work for another. It may also be the case that one method may work well at the start of a course of treatment, but that another is better suited later in the course. I therefore work with an eclectic approach to treatment."

"In my view, integrative therapy is fundamentally about the fact that different directions of therapy can illuminate unique facets of the individual, and therefore give rise to a more complete understanding of other people. In my experience, integrative therapy has given me greater therapeutic leeway to tailor treatment to the individual patient and their needs."
