Mammography every other year

BreastScreen Norway offers screening mammography every other year for women between the ages of 50 and 69. This is a breast cancer check using mammogram (X-ray imaging of the breasts). The aim is to detect breast cancer at early stages and by doing so reduce the number of deaths caused by breast cancer. In 2018, 3568 Norwegian women were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Self-exam every third month

Women are encouraged to perform breast self-exam, at least every third month or even more frequently. This may help to detect breast cancer earlier. Breasts may have small lumps and lumpy areas that are benign, but if you recognize any changes it is also easier for the doctor to evaluate the need of further evaluation. It is important to note that most lumps in the breasts are completely benign.
