How does the treatment take place?

✔️ The doctor injects small diluted amounts of botulinum toxin into the forehead, temples, back of the head, shoulder and neck, a total of 31 to 39 injections.

✔️ The procedure only takes 5-10 minutes. You may experience some discomfort and stinging from the needle pricks, but most people tolerate it well.

Effect and further path

✔️ The effect of migraine is probably due to the fact that signals in the thin pain nerves in the head/neck area are inhibited, and not that the muscles in the area are paralyzed.

✔️ In order to be able to assess the effect, it is a requirement that the patient keeps a headache diary for 1 month before starting the injections and during the entire course of treatment.

✔️ You can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment.

✔️ The effect on the headache usually comes slowly over several weeks and the paralysis in the forehead muscle usually comes within 1-2 weeks.

✔️ If you are satisfied with the result, the effect is maintained with a new injection every 12 weeks

✔️ If there is no effect, the treatment will end.

Side effects

Most people get paralysis of the forehead muscles with straightening of wrinkles. Some may experience drooping eyelids, pointed eyebrows or neck pain. This can usually be avoided by slightly changing doses and injection sites. Other side effects: Rash, itching, tenderness and pain at the injection site, neck pain, neck stiffness, flu-like symptoms and bruising.

You should refrain from rubbing the injection sites for the first 24 hours after the injections

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

It is not recommended to carry out injection treatment during pregnancy unless the migraine is severe and cannot be managed with non-medicinal measures. The drug is considered safe during breastfeeding after the newborn period.
